Sunday, January 1, 2006 Russia has ended exports of natural gas to neighbouring Ukraine following a failure to reach a compromise over prices. Gazprom, Russia’s natural gas behemoth, began cutting off supplies at 7:00 a.m. UTC Sunday, January 1. Gazprom claims to have taken this action because Ukraine refuses to pay the market rate for natural gas which is approximately four times higher than the price previously agreed upon by the two. Ukraine has stated that they are not averse to higher prices but believe they ought to be introduced sequentially. Additionally, Russia does not want to honor its contract to supply gas at $50 per 1000 cubic meters until 2008. By comparison, gas produced by OPEC costs $11.4 per 1000 cubic feet (December 28, 2005)[1], equivalent to $402.6 per 1000 cubic meters, an 8-fold rebate. Gazprom spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov said enough gas was still being piped via Ukraine to…

Sunday, October 10, 2010 Residents of a Leeds, England neighbourhood have requested help from a council because their neighbourhood is plagued by crime, overcrowding, and community tensions. Leeds City Council received a request for help from residents of Hyde Park, who said they were worried about the increasing level of anti-social behavior and worsening community relations. A report will be unveiled on Wednesday by a council delegation, highlighting the problems in the area. “The people living in Hyde Park come from widely different population groups… these groups have very different customs, needs and living styles and this can provoke high levels of tension in the area,” the delegation said. The council claims that because of the 28 per cent ethnic minority population and the 40,000 students living in the neighbourhood, there are tensions between residents. They added, however, that they are actively encouraging people to work together, citing a multi-faith…

Here’s An Opinion On: Australia Soccer Jerseys Submitted by: Ivan Jamison There is no arguing that the Pittsburg Steelers have been one of the more successful teams in the history of the National Football League, and have certainly been the most successful when it comes to the Super Bowl. During the team s 67 years as a franchise, they have played in the most title games in the AFC than any NFL team, and have also won more of those contests. With a total of six victories in the Super Bowl, they reign supreme. In fact, since the 1970s, there has not been a decade that did not have at least one of its Super Bowl games with the Steelers as a participant. Their greatest years, however, would have to be that period that saw them win four Super Bowl titles under one single quarterback: the Steelers legend Terry Bradshaw.…

Here’s An Opinion On: Best Natural Looking Rhinoplasty In Manhattan By Samuel Lam Although men are the most susceptible to hair loss, a large percentage of women also lose hair, a problem that can be just as devastating if not more so to their psyche. An estimate has been given of 30% of women over 30 years of age who lose hair. This is an alarming statistic but one that can be readily solved or at least improved by medicine and/or surgery.
