Wednesday, August 6, 2008 American celebutante and businesswoman Paris Hilton has bashed a recent presidential campaign ad by 2008 U.S. presidential hopeful John McCain in which he compared his rival Barack Obama to celebrities such as Hilton and Britney Spears. In McCain’s TV ad, it was stated that Obama was “the biggest celebrity in the world.” Hilton recorded and uploaded a video to comedy website Funny or Die, in which she mocked McCain by calling him a “wrinkly white-haired guy.” “Hey America. American film director John Hughes dies at age 59
Thursday, August 6, 2009 American film director John Hughes, noted for such movies as Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink and The Breakfast Club, died Thursday due to a heart attack. A statement, released by his representative, said that he experienced the heart attack while on a morning stroll in Manhattan, New York. Hughes was born on February 18, 1950 in Michigan. He started his career as an advertising copywriter in Chicago. By the end of the 1970s he was a frequent contributor to the National Lampoon magazine. In the 1990s, he made the Home Alone series, which became a box office sensation and turned Macaulay Culkin into a star. In recent years, Hughes stepped back from the movie industry to spend more time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy, two sons and four grandchildren.
New video of captured British troops aired; protests at UK embassy in Tehran
Monday, April 2, 2007 Iran state television broadcast a new video of two officers among the fifteen British sailors and marines seized by Iran last week. Yesterday, Iranian students demonstrated in front of the British embassy in Tehran over the incident. Demonstrators threw stones, firecrackers and a smoke grenade but were prevented from entering the embassy compound by police. No damage was reported and no one at the embassy was injured. The BBC‘s correspondent on the location reported that the protestors were hardline Islamist students from Tehran University, who chanted “Death to Britain” and called for an apology from the UK for the incident and putting the seized soldiers on trial. Tuesday, August 29, 2006 A man named George Schultz in Parksville, British Columbia is selling the boat from old TV series Gilligan’s Island at the cost of $99,000. The cruiser, originally cost about $290,000 in the 1960s. “There have been a couple of modifications, so it doesn’t look exactly like the original,” said Shultz, a boat broker who’s selling the 36-foot Wheeler Express Cruiser for fellow Parksdale resident Scotty Taylor. “But it’s still the original boat.” Originally, the boat’s name was The Blue Jacket. “Just for the show, for a stage name, it was called the S.S.
